Special Dead is a very special movie

If you are a horror-comedy fan, you have to see this. It may just be the best bad horror movie ever made. This movie will never be a classic, but I can certainly see it becoming a cult classic.My husband and I are huge horror fans and are starting to acquire quite a collection of horror-comedy DVDs. Furthermore, his best friend, also a horror buff, is wheelchair-bound. So when we stumbled across a horror flick ad featuring the handicap symbol guy wielding a chainsaw, we all had to check it out. I warn you now, this is maybe the least PC movie ever made! Also, there is blatant sexuality and gratuitous gore. It's low budget, the filming is iffy and the acting is (intentionally?) cheesy.In a nutshell, zombies invade a camp for the mentally challenged (some of whom are also physically challenged.) The campers try to escape with the dubious assistance of the following: two ethically-challenged (and, of course scantily-clad) female counselors, one textbook-style 1980's male counselor who has neither ethics nor brains, but does wield a mean set of nun chucks, one stereotypical "gangsta" who was put on the wrong bus and should be in prison and an utter nutcase old geezer. As you'd imagine, not everyone makes it and the net result is, of course, mentally challenged zombies. I told you it wasn't PC. You think I'm kidding, right? I'm so not. Yet, for what it is, it's a great movie. It's shockingly funny, largely because it doesn't take itself too seriously. It makes fun of the 80s horror staples while somehow paying them homage. If you aren't a big horror fan or don't like the horror-comedy sub-genre, don't bother. But if you are, it's a must see. The DVD extras are worth checking out and for a privately-distributed film, it's been really well packaged and marketed. You can only buy it on the Special Dead website right now.
