Spicer Castle in Spicer, MN, is my favorite spot for a romantic getaway. It is a bed & breakfast located on a hill overlooking Green Lake. It is a beautiful old home which is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.

It is an ideal spot for lovers looking for romance. They offer themed getaways such as holiday dinners by candlelight, dinner cruises on the lake, and murder mystery dinners. I experienced a murder mystery dinner and fun was had by all! The food was good and the entertainment was excellent. The owner, Allen Latham, is an excellent story teller and grandson of the original owner John Spicer.

There are themed rooms located in four buildings on the property. Some rooms offer unique features such as whirlpool tubs or even a swinging bed! The main inn is where the meals take place. It has a welcoming living room with piano and fireplace. Each stay includes an afternoon tea and full breakfast in the dining room. If you have dietary restrictions, they can usually cater to you if you give them advance notice. Also, the staff is happy to take care of the details like having a vase of flowers waiting in the room upon your arrival. If you book a special event, like the murder mystery dinner, they also provide you with a souvenir photo of all the guests gathered together.

Spicer Castle is located just over 100 miles West of Minneapolis. It takes approximately 2 hours to drive there. It is just far enough for a getaway, and the perfect spot for romance.
