I just received our yearly renewal for our homeowners insurance and was reminded of how great we feel State Farm has been to us over the years. We have had State Farm insure our home since we purchased it 35 years ago and also use them for all of our car insurance needs.
Our total annual premium is $547.00 (which can be split up into 2 payments)
Our coverage includes:
Replacement cost (similar construction) to our home
Personal Property $125,000
Loss of use - Actual Loss Sustained
Personal Liability Coverage - $300,000.00
We have a $500.00 deductible on all losses.
We get a premium reduction for having home/auto coverage of $80.00 and a claim free discount of $1436.00. A claim free period is equal to three years and/or depending on your plan.
This policy also covers dwelling extensions, jewelry and furs, computer coverage, fungus/mold removal, telecommuter coverage, debris removal, damage to property of others and medical payments to others.
We have the greatest agent and his staff is always friendly and willing to answer any questions we have. We have only had to file 2 claims in the years we've been with State Farm. The first was damage caused when my husband developed his own pictures and built himself a little darkroom about 25 years ago. Something overheated and almost started a fire but only melted all the countertop as we caught it in time. Our agent came right over, assessed the damage and wrote a check on the spot to replace the counter. Our second claim was about 5 years ago when our television was hit by lightning and blew out a lot of the workings inside. We called the State Farm office and they asked us to get a repairman in, have him write up an estimate of damages and the cause. We took this over to our agent who told us to go out and buy a new comparable TV up to $2000.00 and bring back the bill and they would issue us a check for the deductible. This was done as soon as we brought the bill in, no waiting for it to be processed or anything, just a very easy transaction all the way around.
I would highly recommend State Farm for homeowner insurance and especially our agent, Bob Mills Jr. We might be able to get cheaper coverage elsewhere but we've never been tempted to check. Customer service rates high with us and you couldn't find any better than Bob and his staff.

I have been with State Farm for home and auto for over 20 years and not once have they let me down.
My parents had been with State Farm since they learned how to drive. We had everything through them and that included my parents having homeowner's insurance. That is until Florida got hit with 3 hurricanes Katrina, Jeanne and Wilma. Jeanne did the most damage in West Palm Beach where my parents were and State Farm didn't pay a dime to my parents, who had never had a claim. They were devastated and have since moved to Georgia and are under a different company. But they had been great for well over 50 years to them. Just be cautious with any company when there's a tragedy because not many wish to pay back.
