Stay Off Training Aid By MaggieM on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Unfortunatly there are a lot of stray cats in my neighborhood. They don't bother me except when they pee on our doors. Summertime is here so we leave our doors open to get some air. I have two cats of my own and they love sitting at the door to look outside. Well, the outdoor strays see them then decide to spray on our door to mark their territory. Now if you've ever smelt cat urine you know how awful this is. So we tried some spray to use outside to help keep them from coming onto our porches.

We decided to try Hartz Stay Off Training Aid spray. It is for cats and dogs to help eliminate unwanted behaviors. Its very simple to use, just spray the areas you don't want the animal to be in. It says you can use it indoors on furniture or places you don't want your pet laying, however that makes me nervous as there is a precautionary statement on the can about it being hazardous to humans and animals. It also says not to spray on shrubs, ornamental plants or food crops.

We sprayed the concrete around our porch only. I think it may have helped however it doesn't last as long as I had hoped it would. This product requires multiple applications and obviously washes off in water. It was worth the try however I am not very impressed with this product. I can't say I recommend it and like I said the hazardous warnings make me hesitant to use it for our safety, the animal's safety and the effects to the environment. I think I'll try to find something a little more natural...
