STIHL Weed Whacker KM 55 RC
By Rancosto onI bought STIHL Weed Whacker KM 55 RC two years ago. It is a neat, powerful tool, a bit on the pricy side, but STIHL is considered the best brand out there, and I did not want a cheap version that would not last me one season. I also purchased a rototiller attachment, so I have been using this weed wacker both to prepare soil and trim weeds.
The first season everything was fine, no complaints. The weed whacker worked very well, helping me to keep our yard neat. During the second season, however, it broke, and I had to take it to the shop & put a new carburator in. After this was done, the weed whacker worked fine.
This year - season 3 - I had pulled it out just a few days ago and tried using it, and it wouldn't work again. I took it to the shop, and this time they replaced the muffler / catalytic converner. The weed whacker works fine again, but I am not too happy with all these repairs that have cost me over $200.

Ouch - didn't see that coming; thanks for sharing and for the great info!
Boy, that's a lot of repairs on a machine that only cost $350 to begin with.
And that's supposedly the best brand? I wonder how well a regular one would perform...
Ouch! that is turning out to be a very expensive tool.
Oh my goodness-it sounds like a fair weather whacker! I hope you're able to find a more reliable one!
It sounds like a lemon! Too bad, because as you stated, STIHL usually has superior products.
That is an awful lot of repair work and a real lot of extra expense that you were not planning on! I definitely will steer clear of this product! Have you contacted the company about your problems with this at all?
Wow, to pay to repair it every year, you could practically buy a new one without all the bells & whistles each year. I would call the company and see what they have to say about their product breaking down so quickly.
Wow, that is quite a few problems in a small amount of time. Sorry you have had to replace so many parts. That would really annoy me.
Thats awful! I'd say buy a new one but geez you've already put so much into this one. Good luck with next season!
