Summer Of Hummer By kateri27 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

Working in sales you often get a company vehicle. For three long and agonizing years ours was a Black Hummer H2.

Driving a Hummer might very well be some peoples dream car, personally it was my nightmare. The car is big to start with, but when you think big you think cargo room, oh no that is just not the case. There is very little cargo space for the size of the vehicle and on top of that it only seats six people.

Then there is the issue of gas mileage, forget about it. It is supposed to get 12 mpg city and 16 mpg highway. I only got 10 mpg and felt like I was throwing money to the wind with this puppy.

Mechanical problems, well they never seemed to end. There were ignition problems, problems with the DVD, The radio broke, lock issues, do I need to go on? because I could!

On the pro side of this vehicle it does get peoples attention, if that is what you are going for. It also felt very safe to drive in.

Unless you feel that you absolutely need to be a driving billboard (in which case this is the car for you or your business) I would recommend that you keep your distance. I am happy to report that the lease on this one is almost up and my company will not be renewing it!

And here I thought these were so cool! Figured the gas mileage sucked, lol. Thanks for sharing, what a lease payment though but I think we pay that much for our company car (a Cadillac) since there are so many miles put on it by the owner.

Good to know they are not so great. I don't even think they are cool... but I'm sorry you had to be the one to learn all this for us!

I have often wondered how people could afford to drive a Hummer with gas prices as they are...now I know...company vehicles. lol I certainly hope you weren't paying for all that gas!

these dinosaurs have really only one use in my opinion-law enforcement. They are big rough riding utility vehicles that have no place on suburban streets. They ride rough and are bears to park.

Holy crap - $1000 a month?! That is almost my rent payment for my apartment...I can't even imagine having that as a monthly car payment. But obviously your company can afford. And thank goodness you did not have to be the one to pay for the gas for that thing...oh what a gas guzzler! It is a sharp car, and definitely a conversation starter but that's about it for me. Not to mention I don't even think I would want to attempt at parking that thing...lol Glad to hear you company won't be renewing, it will definitely save them some money! :o)

Thanks for sharing the honest information about this vehicle. I have always wondered about the details you mentioned. I know these vehicles only look cool.

Your right about people buying them to say here I am, look at me! Yeah I see you, that big ugly thing is sucking the dough right out of your pocket! LOL.

Thanks for dispelling the myth that these are solidly built. I'm glad I know better now!

$1000 per month, that's about what I pay for my mortgage payment! Ok, now I feel better that I can't afford it :0) And, OMG, $10 per gallon! That would really suck about now when gas is $3.50 per gallon! And it only seats 6? I had no idea!

I've never been attracted to a Hummer...it wouldn't be energy efficient for me. I like smaller cars with better gas mileage. Glad you'll be getting something else to drive soon.
