Summerland by Michael Chanbon is a long but engaging novel about a boy who hates baseball.I read this book with my 6th grade students and they loved this book!It is definately a long book at just over 500 pages, but the journey Chanbon takes the reader on is one that will remain in your memory for years to come.

This book is high on fantasy, magic, and learning about one's true strength's as a person.Ethan, the main character, is a boy who hates baseball. He lives with his father, a scientist, on Clam Island off the east coast.

This book took my class places they never new existed and provide lots of wonderful dicussion topics for my middle school class. The only reason this book does not get a 5 from me is because the story is a bit drawn out.Overall, a excellent book for kids and adults who enjoy reading high fantasy novels.
