Sun Studios Tour By karlawmcdonald on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I had the time of my life last March when we went to Memphis, Tennessee and I talked my family into touring Sun Studios. Affectionately referred to "The Birthplace of Rock N' Roll" , it is located at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. It is now a registered national landmark and you might enjoy their website which is www.sunstudio.com. To this day they still record music there. During the tour you were taken upstairs from the restaurant and souvenir shop and the tour guide discussed music and its progression over the years. The tour guide himself was worth seeing, he was very humorous and knowledgeable. Music played in the background all during the upstairs part of the tour and I often found myself wanting to dance, now that would of been a sight! Once we made it downstairs to the actual recording studio you will see most of the original furniture from the 40's and 50's. I had the honour of standing in the exact spot that the likes of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and more. I was able to sit on the same bench and touch the very keys that Jerry Lee Lewis recorded on in his early days. They have done a great job in preserving this studio and once the tour is over you can take as many pictures as you like. The whole family ended up enjoying this tour after I had to drag them in there, if ever you are in Memphis I suggest this tour.

What a cool tour to take - being able to see and feel where Rock N Roll began ! I'd love to see Sun Studios someday.
