We used to go through a lot of telephones when my husband worked the night shift. He'd get into almost a sleep rage when the phone would ring while he was sleeping during the day and smash the phone. It seems I was replacing phones about 1-2 a times a month. I tried a lot of different corded phones during this time but after I purchased the Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone with Caller Id it is now the only replacement phone I buy.
The phone has a caller id built in, right on the top. It is pretty heavy duty as ours have been dropped several time and still have held up well. I have found if dropped too much the area that suffers is the receiver volume, it will become harder to hear callers after being dropped several times.
The battery life on the caller id is pretty good and like most phones there is the standard ringer adjustment buttons. We've had our one of our SW Bell phones for almost 2 years now and it has been through just about every torture and is still working great. I would highly recommend this phone!!

I can understand your husband's rage. Does he still have to sleep during the day? Good luck.
Perhaps you could try some of the phones like we have, where you can turn off the ringer completely, and then just check your messages later. Those have been a blessing to me, because I keep strange hours, and often sleep during the day.
