What a fun, quirky book. At first glance, the story of Delores Walker and her dream to become a mermaid in Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida is just a fun little story. But there is actually a lot more going on in this book, especially the relationships between Delores and her mother, father and baby brother. We follow the journey of Delores Walker as she turns into Delores Taurus, mermaid extraordinaire, and becomes famous in her own unlikely way.

Delightful characters bring this story to life, from Delores herself, to her colorful mother and the other mermaids too. The book shows us how each of the main characters envision how they want their life to be, and in their own ways, they make it happen for themselves.

I recommend this book as a great vacation read!
