Swing Away Peeler By sizwizz on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I've had an old potato peeler for years, and it still does a decent job of peeling. It used to belong to my mother, so that should give you an idea of how old it is. I happened to be at Bed Bath and Beyond and came across Swing Away peeler with a red handle. It's the red handle that got to me, since red is my accent color in my kitchen. I wondered about the name, Swing Away. What exactly does that mean? The package said it had surgical steel blades, so I figured it couldn't be that bad.

The first time I used it, I peeled potatoes. It actually did a find job! It didn't glide through the peeling like I expected. After all, with the surgical steel blades, I thought it would be like cutting through butter. I guess I expected too much. As for the name, Swing Away? Well, I don't get that either. It doesn't swing anywhere! It just peels. Like it should.

I wasn't super impressed with this peeler, but it does what it's supposed to do. I still like my old standby peeler better!
