Technique Pre Seasoned Cast Iron Grill Griddle By crunkyjens on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I live in an apartment with an enclosed patio so I am not allowed to have a grill. I missed making hamburgers, steaks, pork, BBQ chicken, etc. on the grill so much; it just didn't taste the same made on the stove or in the oven.
So my mom, thinking she could help the situation, bought me the Technique - Pre Seasoned Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle. You are supposed to be able to put this over two of the burners on your stove and it will act like a grill. Sounds like a good concept right? Wrong.
Since this is cast iron, apparently according to the directions you are supposed to "season" it first. Wow, was that process a nightmare if I ever encountered one. The directions told me to coat the grill with Crisco and then put it into the oven to let it bake off. I did this, followed the directions word for word, and ended up with an apartment full of thick smoke which caused every smoke detector I have to start screaming. Not good for the lungs or the ears. So needless to say my plan for some yummy hamburgers on the "grill" did not end up how I wanted.
In fear of dying of smoke inhalation I shut off the oven and stopped "seasoning" the stupid thing and pretty much gave up.
To this day I have not touched the "grill/griddle," nor do I plan to. So I definitely do not recommend this product, unless of course, you like lots of smoke and screaming smoke detectors.

Crisco would make it really spit in the oven, no wonder you had problems. Sorry, this turned out to be such a disappointment, too bad the nuisance value wasn't worth it.
