The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn 1960 By ArmySister on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

This is the original movie from 1960 of "Huckleberry Finn." I think it is one of the best jobs I've seen of Mark Twain's original works. This is an awesome movie. It stars Eddie Hodges, Tony Randall, and Archie Moore. This cast do an amazing job of making this look time period appropriate and of telling the story of a young boy and a black slave on the adventure of a lifetime.

I was so excited to find this movie on DVD. I teach high school English and I'm always looking for movies that are great portrayals of the novels. This one totally fits the bill. I have showed it year after year to my students, and they enjoy it year after year without fail. The only concerns I have with this movie are that it is so close to being correct that the racism really comes through at times. You must prepare younger audiences for this and discuss how this was common at that time and would not be appropriate now.
