The Beatles White Album By May Monten on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
The White Album (which is actually untitled, and sometimes referred to as "The Double Album") came out when I was 13, and I listened to it zillions of times back then and knew most of the songs by heart.
I listened to it again recently, and found that it still holds up. It doesn't seem dated at all.
In fact, I heard many things this time, listening with adult ears, that I hadn't noticed as a young teen. For one thing, many of the lyrics seemed darker and more complex, and some more violent, than I had remembered.
What also struck me this time was the sheer variety of the songs. It's impossible to pigeon-hole the album into a single genre.
Almost every single one of the 30 songs is a classic. I won't even try to pick out a favorite.
