The Girl Next Door By marie17183 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Wow, this film should be filed under 'films to ruin your day'. Not because it's a rubbish film, but because it is one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen and is really not suitable for those of a sensitive disposition.

The film centers on Meg and her younger sister Susan who are sent to live with their sadistic aunt and cousins. The tension is evident right from the start and continues to rise throughout the film until the truly horrific ending. Had I read reviews of this film before I watched it I don't think I could have bought myself to watch it until the end.

The abuse these two girls suffered really cuts a nerve. Particularly with regard to Meg even though the film doesn't really allow us to get too close to her. However, you are somehow drawn towards Meg and her suffering.

I gave this film 4 smiles because although it was a good film it didn't need to be as graphic as it was. However, its role as a thought provoking film makes us wander how depraved people can be towards one another. Maybe it was meant to be this disturbing. This was based on the true story of Sylvia Liken and children do suffer abuse like this every day.

If you are willing to stomach the horrendous nature of the film then this film will stick with you for a long time.
