The New Super Mario Brothers
By Sam Rockwell onFor quite some time now, Nintendo fans have been asking for a new side-scrolling Mario Bros. game, and now it has been delivered. The New Super Mario Bros. is everything an old-school fan could ask for, playing a homage to the earlier Nintendo versions of the plumber more than anything. The visuals are completely 3-D, but still play out like the older sprite based versions. The music is mostly remixes of the NES originals, done very well and hardly ever get old. Gameplay wise, there are a total of eight worlds that Mario has to conquer, but each provide quite a number of secrets and prizes that can be unlocked. If there is anything wrong with the game, it may be that the game doesn't quite expand outside it's comfort zone of classic jumping on enemies and collecting the same three items over and over again. Still, one of the aspects of the New Super Mario Bros. is nostalgia yet still retaining the same great gameplay from the past twenty years, and there it delievers.
