The Nintendo Ds By Vnascone By vnascone on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The DS is an interesting handheld, to say the least. It has a touchscreen, though I myself prefer a regular controller. The normal control on a DS is absolutely awesome. It has great feel and you know when you've done something. With the touchscreen, however, there is no real feedback other than what happens on screen. It feels mushier, hence the somewhat low control score.

Image and sound quality are pretty bad in 3D games, but when one goes to the 2D selection, it is just awesome. Animations and textures leave much to be desired in 3D games. In addition, very few 3D games are fun enough to make up for the poor graphics, with only an occaisonal gem here and there. I give it a rather high game selection rating, however, because there are myriads of 2D games that more than make up for the lackluster 3D.

Games for the DS are rather expensive, especially the earlier games like Phoeinx Wright and Trauma Center.

Overall, the DS is a good purchase. The individual features do not overwhelm, but added together they far surpass their perceived value.
