The Phantom Of The Opera On Broadway By tinkerbelle22 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Phantom of the Opera is a Broadway musical that is playing at the Majestic Theatre in New York City. It is a very popular show that has been running for almost 20 years.

I really enjoyed this musical a lot. The songs are written by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, and I definitely think that it is one of his best shows. Most of the songs are very memorable, such as "Music of the Night" and "All I Ask Of You". A lot of people are probably already familiar with some of these songs before even seeing the show.

It is a great story of a deformed man who wears a mask to cover his face, known as The Phantom, and he lives underneath a French opera house. He falls in love with the woman he teaches to sing, Christine, and she becomes an opera star. Even though it sounds strange, it really is a love story and you can't help but feel sorry for The Phantom.

The Phantom of the Opera is now the longest running musical in Broadway history, so if you are visiting New York City, it is definitely worth seeing this show.

The tunes of this musical are unfortunately familiar because much of it was lifted straight from various Puccini operas (the most infamous being the Phantom's 'The Music of the Night', which quotes all too literally the love duet that ends the first act of 'La fanciulla del west'). I do like the original novel by Gaston Leroux, tho. Soren
