The Spongebob Squarepants Movie Dvd Fullscreen By PC200X on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Spongebob Movie came out in 2004, just as Spongebob's popularity seemed to be starting to wind down. Still, the movie was a hit at the box office, not to mention on DVD.

Mr. Krabs is in trouble! King Neptune's crown has been stolen, and he's the one being accused of stealing it! Fortunately, Spongebob and Patrick have volunteered to brave the treacherous seas and travel to the cursed Shell City to recover the crown. If they don't make it back in time, Mr. Krabs is cooked. Along the way, they'll encounter monsterous creatures, brutal thugs, and a vicious bounty hunter hired by Plankton to stop them in their tracks. Will they succeed?

The movie takes everything great about the TV show and improves it tenfold. The writing is just as sharp as the show, the animation is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, especially for a Nickelodeon movie. You can tell the creators put a great deal of blood, sweat, and tears into putting this film together.

The DVD has some pretty neat stuff. We get a nice featurette featuring a behind the scenes look at the creation of the movie with input by the show's creator, writers, and voice actors. We also get a 20-minute animatic of a movie scene. Unfortunately, it gets bogged down by non-Spongebob-related documentaries about how the coral reefs are dying. Not that I don't care about what's happening, but I bought the DVD for Spongebob, not for coral reefs. We're also treated to the teaser trailer. While nice, it would've been enjoyable to have the other trailers produced for the movie, as well.

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie DVD is worth the price for the movie alone, and the special features are icing on the cake. Any self-respecting Spongebob fan should have this movie in their collection.
