The Undomestic Goddess By Sophie Kinsella By anninwaterloo on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Has the stress of your job ever driven you to the breaking point? Have you ever just wanted to walk out of the door and escape to another life? In Sophie Kinsella's book, "The Undomestic Goddess", that is exactly what title character Samantha Sweeting does. After making a huge mistake at her law firm, one that will surely end her dream of making partner, Sweeting breaks down and makes a run for it...right into the English countryside and into the job of a housekeeper.

It's obviously a stretch to think a high-powered career woman would "mistakingly" be hired as a maid, but as with any good "chick lit" book, the reader is somehow taken in to the story and goes along with Samantha as she learns the ins and outs of keeping a home; and of course falls in love along the way.

As with most "chick lit" British authors, half the fun is reading about the details of life in England. "The Undomestic Goddness" does feature a good twist and some suprises towards the end, making it a better-than-usual beach read.
