The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been a favorite of children for nearly 30 years. It is the story of a newly hatched caterpillar eating his way through different kinds of food.As each day of the week passes, he finds himself eating something different.Plums on Wednesday, oranges on Friday until he gorges himself on cake, candy and other treats on Saturday.Of course at the end of the week he builds a cocoon and hatches into a beautiful butterfly!

I love that this story talks about nature in a fun way.On each page, there is a die-cut hole where the caterpillar has eaten through. My daugther at a year old loved to stick her little fingers through them and turn the pages.

The illustrations are brightly colored and characteristic of Eric Carle's other illustrated books.

This is a great gift for a child beginning at about a year. Before then, it might take too long to get through it to keep his or her attention.

Our boys loved this book. The little nature lesson stayed with them into later childhood. I'd often watch them observing caterpillars and referring to its stages, because they remembered this book so well.

A great classic. Glad to see that it's still being enjoyed by today's children.

This really is a terrific classic book! I remember reading it to my 'little girl' who is now a crabby 15 year old!
