The Vikings by Dr. Johnathan Wooding is a short synopsis of the Viking age and associated culture. I'm interested in Scandinavian History, but have no formal training persay in the field. I've tried other books that required too much background knowledge. This book, however, is great for the novice interested in learning about the Vikings and Norwegian history. It has many great photos of artifacts, buildings and landscapes. Also maps and illustrations are very helpful. The book is definitely introductory level, which I found to be appropriate. If you're already versed in Viking culture and history, this will likely seem superficial. It makes a great coffee table book. There's a good further reading index at the end. I plan on reading further, but found this book to be a great starting point.
