The Waxing Beginners Review By Dime on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I purchased the Parissa wax strips several weeks ago while it was on sale because it required no heating and stated it was ideal for beginners. I was tried of shaving and wanted to try something new that would have longer effects with better results. It wasn't until today however, that I worked up the courage to test it out.

After reading the simple instructions I tested out the product on one of my hairy armpits (nasty I know) to see how the pain and effectiveness was like. The first attempt removed half of the hair but left a uneven patch of hair. After doing it two more times I ended up bleeding from several of my pores. The worse part was: the left over patch was still there.

Maybe it is because of my lack of experience using these products but I was too horrified by my bleeding, semi-hairy pit to try it on my other side. I have a feeling I will attempt it again probably in the future, but only after this experience has faded a bit from my memory.

Includes: 24 strips and azulene oil

Pros: Easy to use - warm up by rubbing in hands

Cons: Not as ideal for beginners as some might think as evident by my unexpected results.

as an esthetician that regularly waxes (and user of parissa wax strips), i should mention a couple things about waxing. first, yes, the process can be painful, afterall, you are removing hair from the roots. the pain however gets less with time, just as it does with plucking eyebrows. waxing definately provides longer term results than shaving and particularly in areas that the hair is coarser like the underarm and bikini area. that said, the underarm and bikini are probably the hardest areas to wax and the most painful since the hair is really coarse and deep rooted in those areas. although bleeding is not typical, sometimes in the underarm and bikini area some pin-heads of blood can occur after waxing. the reason for this is that the hairs are connected to capillaries that carry blood/food to your hair. when the hair is removed from the root, sometimes blood can surface. after regular waxing treatments, this will also minimize after a while when the hair becomes weaker. this is another advantage of waxing, the hair becomes lighter, thinner and less resistant over time. although your first experience wasn't great, using wax strips can be a great alternative to shaving, especially for beginners. my only suggestion would be to try to wax easier areas than bikini or underarm for your first try at waxing. good luck on your future tries.
