I have extremely coarse African American hair that goes to my back and the only way to effectively straighten my hair is to go to my salon for a blowout and for my stylist to use a pressing comb so imagine my skepticism when I saw demonstrations on all kinds of hair types including African American hair saying that usually within one straigtening pass, hair would be bone straight. I have seen this tool demonstrated many many times and finally bit the bullet and ordered it. The iron is a bit heavy so I have to use both hands to manuever it-this would have received a perfect rating if the iron was lighter. I did not use the straigtening balm that came with the iron (this was loaded with all kinds of goodies-a brush, texture balm, leave in straightening balm, a smooth plate, and a carrying case and opted to use my own styling creme. My hands were shaking as I put the iron to my hair and as soon as the iron touched my roots, it did not burn me at all and straightened my roots! No curling iron that I have ever used has done that before! I straightened the section of hair and I could not believe how bone straight and shiny it was! This iron also cuts in half the amount of time it takes to straighten my hair so this is definitely a winner in my book! The straight hair lasts until you shampoo your hair, Well worth the money!

Outstanding, I will definitely have to check this out! I've been wanting a flatiron but I also have really coarse, thick hair and the one I have hardly does anything to it. It was pretty cheap though. I just didn't want to spend a lot of money on one and not have it work. This sounds like a winner though!

If that straightening iron could straighten your hair then it could definitely straighten my very wavy hair. I don't use straightening irons that much because I'm afraid of drying my hair. Does that happen to you?
Choclette, this is a beauty tool for home users that was way overdue to come into market. I don't think the price is steep considering this iron works this well. Maybe they'll find a way to make it lighter so disabled users can get smooth shiny hair too!
