This Yardstick Measures Up! By sizwizz on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
In my quest for a yard trimmer/edger that was the right size and lightweight, I stumbled upon the Yardstick. Being a shorter female, I always had a problem with the the gas powered trimmers being too heavy and the shaft was too long to handle comfortably. I own an electric Weed Eater brand trimmer that is a perfect fit, but wasn't practical for the acre+ that I live on.
Enter the Yardstick!
The Yardstick shaft is similar in length to that of the Weed Eater so I don't feel like I lugging a pole around! It has a 10 inch cutting path, and best of all it's cordless! I'm free to move around my great big yard and trim/edge to my heart's desire. Changing from trimming mode to edging was easy to do with the positioning of the handle, although the handle isn't as adjustable as I would like it. I was impressed by the power that came from the 24 volt battery, and when I finish manicuring my lawn I just hang it up on my wall-mounted charger until the next use.
The battery life lasts about an hour of use, but by the end of the hour it's 'zip' is running low. I'd say it's at it's best for 45 minutes and the last 15 minutes can be used for whimpy trimming or edging.
This is fantastic tool for people looking for a lighter-weight, shorter-length trimmer/edger. It may not be as comfortable to use if you are a taller person, so that may be something to consider before buying.
As for me... what can I say? My yard loves my Yardstick!

Thanks for sharing. I may have to look into one of these to replace the overly large trimmer I bought last year. Thanks for the great information.
This sounds perfect for those of us who are smaller. The large ones simply give me impossible back and shoulder cramps because of the uncomfortable angle I have to hold them at.
I had the opposite frustration a few months ago, when I worked all day with a professional model that was about 6" too short. I don't think my back will ever recover.
Love the lightweight feature of your Yardstick!
Thanks for the warning to tall people - otherwise this sounds like a pretty good trimmer!
