Bought my Timex Explorer Edition (W-99) wrist watch way back in 2003. I can say that my Timex is a durable timepiece because all its moving arms are all still intact and perfectly working until now, including the alarm and its indiglo (light). The watch battery life lasted for about 5 years before replacing for the new one, it cost me around 150 pesos here in my country and that is around USD 3.75. However, the straps that comes along with the original (W-99) doesn't last long because the straps is not made of good material. The outer layer I think is a very thin leather and beneath the strap is a rubber material that worn out and become britle that didn't last long for 5 years. Anyway, I have replaced it with a new same straps and cost me 500 pesos (USD 12.50). NOT BAD AT ALL... and what is important is the main time piece. It's durable and I think the W-99 model is no longer available within their official website, which makes this more unique because I own a watch that is no longer in production and yet can still get support from the local store where I originally bought my Timex Explorer.
