Titanic - Maiden Voyage review
By Mary onI first saw this magnificent movie in 1997. Shortly thereafter I purchased the DVD of the Titanic. Kate Winslet plays Rose and Leonardo Di Caprio plays Jack. They first meet on the maiden voyage of this luxury liner. I was very impressed with the grandeur of this ship. The ship is said to be unsinkable. Unfortunately, the Titanic is doomed when it collides with an iceberg in the frigid North Atlantic. Rose is engaged to be married to a very wealthy businessman but she demonstrates no passion for him. He presents her with a huge blue diamond pendant on a necklace as an engagement gift which mysteriously disappears. However, Rose is looking for excitement and passion that she finds in Jack even though he has nothing to offer her but his love. Their love ignites when Jack draws a nude picture of Rose and their steamy affair begins. When the Titanic hits the iceberg, the thrilling race for survival begins. This picture won eleven Academy Awards including Best Picture. I was very disappointed and somewhat shocked that neither Kate Winslet nor Leonardo Di Caprio won any acclaim at all especially since they contributed greatly in making the picture what it was. I was thoroughly rivoted by the excitement of each scene and I could picture myself in the midst of all the terrifying situations. I even wondered how I would have reacted in this life or death turmoil.
