Tonka Bike...Mighty Tough By cukal6 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
My son got this bike last year for his 3rd birthday. He had to have a bike because his older brother had one. It is a really cute bike. He likes that it doesn't look like a "baby" bike. It's got a very rugged look and it was very easy to assemble.
It is a heavier bike which makes it easy for him to handle with the training wheels on. It did take him a little while to get it going since it is so heavy. But once he figured it out, there was no stopping him. HOwever, when we tried to take the training wheels off, it was very hard for him to balance all that weight. I've heard this from other families with the same bike. We will probably have to trade it in for a lighter one later this summer.
Another problem is if you damage the training wheels. They can not be replaced and you have to order them direct from the manufacturer. They are not very cheap and it's kind of an inconvenience.
It's been a great bike for the past year, but I hate the fact that we will probably have to replace it this summer.

Well, live and learn! Who would have thought you couldn't get replacement training wheels! I mean what kid DOESN'T damage them when they are learning? At least it was good for a year:0)
Interesting information. $60 is a lot of money to put out for a one-summer bike that didn't hold up, work well for the child, and was a hassle. I don't think I would have given it such a good score.
I never even knew that tonka made bikes, bummer about the training wheels and the balance, it looks like a cool bike.
had no idea Tonka made bikes! But I totally understand about the heaviness. We had to get my son a lighter bike a couple years back because his first bike was on the heavy side and once the training wheels came off it was too hard for him.
Sorry this bike didn't live up to your expectations. But thanks for letting others know your experience with it!
that is not good that you cannot replace the training wheels. Other than that, it sounds good.
That stinks that the training wheels are easily replaceable. You gotta love how they find ways to make extra money off of us. Sorry to hear you will to get a new bike.
It's cute but if you have to buy another bike to train with, seems like it was an added expense getting this one. I hope he gets to ride without training wheels soon.
That's too bad about the training wheels. The bike is really cute though.
Sorry that this bike has some problems. It does have a nice look and I'm sure a little boy loves the fact that it looks like a big kid bike.
