Toshiba Sd1700 Dvd Player: No Worries By lynlyn on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Toshiba SD-1700 is an excellent, durable DVD player. It was given to me as a gift from a friend who had already used it for several years. I've had it for a couple years now myself, and it is still going strong.

I don't need much from a DVD player. Good picture quality, works quietly, a few fun features and hookups for my digital camcorder, and I'm completely satisfied. The Toshiba SD1700 more than met these requirements.

It has a ton of extra features, many of which I haven't used because I haven't had a need for them. I love the zoom function, especially if I'm not wearing my contacts and need to see the action a little better. The slow motion is awesome, featuring three different speeds. The camera angle select sounds like it would be great, but I've never had a DVD that could use this option. It also has a parental lock and time search.

The menus are intuitive enough that you don't need a manual, and the remote is laid out well.

One thing you might want to know is that it will not play DVD+R's. It sometimes has a little difficulty playing DVD-R's, but with some coaxing it will play them.

For me, the main selling point is that it is trouble free after all these years. If you want a DVD Player that is well made and will last a while, the Toshiba SD-1700 is an excellent buy.
