Total Money Makeover By buckeyefan on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Have you ever tried to get out of debt, whether it be home equity loans, student loans, credit cards, etc.? If you have, you know how hard it can be, especially when it seems like unexpected expenses pop up without warning.

The book "Total Money Makeover" is one that has helped my family begin that path to financial freedom. We still have a long way to go, but this book has given us the motivation to try, and the knowledge to figure out the best plan.

The author, Dave Ramsey, has a wonderful writing style. I found him to be a very no-nonsense, realistic person. He spells out the reasons that so many Americans find themselves drowning in debt; he is frank, but not condescending, which I thought was rather refreshing. He offers tons of tips to get yourself out of debt, the two major factors being the emergency fund and the debt snowball. The book does not contain a lot of financial terminology in it; strictly laymens terms, with easy to understand anecdotes along the way.

I really enjoyed this book a lot, and have recommended it to many people. It is great to have a copy at home, so that when I start to get discouraged, I can pick it up and get some refresher tips to kick-start my motivation again. It is an easy read, but one that will change the way you look at and spend your money!

I"ve read a lot about Dave Ramsey lately but I can't decide if it's for us or not. Maybe I'll see if the library has it.
