Transitions Seem Nice But Are Flimsy By pamarama on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I should have known that my Transition lenses would not be a good buy when they were the only glasses in the store that did not come wtih a warranty. I was trying to save money and cut down on lost glasses, and buy one pair of Transitions instead of a pair of glasses and a pair of sunglasses. My eyes are very light-sensitive and I need to wear sunglasses to drive on most days, even if it is overcast. Well, the transitions were stylish, with a pretty blue frame to match my eyes, and they were very comfortable. I don't wear glasses all the time, only to drive, so I notice wearing them more than others might. For me, the lenses did not work great because they never got quite dark enough when I was in the bright sunlight. Also, they got a little bent when my son grabbed themoff my face. I gently tried to fix them and they broke in half. I was suprised that they broke so easily. I went back to wearing two pairs of glasses, since I was not happy with the durability of these glasses. Also, i like a brownish tint and these had a grayish tint, which I think made me look older than I am.

Sorry you hada bad experience with the transitions lenses. Yes you glasses broke buy they were the frames and not the lenses which were fragile. My mom has transitions and her frames are heavy duty. Check with your eyeglass store. Thelenses wear very well. Nice job!

Good to have this perspective, as I have thought of getting transitions also, and wondered if I could get by with one pair of glasses. I wear my glasses all the time, and my eyes are sensitive to sunlight also. Sounds like it's better to get 2 pair.

Great for driving a golf ball but not for driving a car. Interior shade of provided in most cars affect the shading of the transition lenses. If you drive a convertible with top down they work fine at cutting glare.

Transitions lenses are excellent for everyday pair of glasses that you wear most of the time. They are not a sunglass and your eyecare professional, knowing that you only wear glasses when driving should have recommended a sunglass lens like Drivewear. The Drivewear lenses do darken behind the windshield - and get even darker outside in brighter sunlight. Plus they are polarized and that, too, is great for driving.

I used to see commercials for these all the time. I always thought they were cool. I've got 20/20 vision but i'll recommend it to my friends who wear glasses!

Oh well as long as it's usable and durable then it's ok. Sorry for your experience.

I have worn transiions for the last 7 years I went to them beccause I was told that I need to shade my eyes people with blue eyes can get glucoma easier. I took the darkest tent they had, I also wear my glasses to see the computer and read. I at one timehad glasses to drive, sun glasses, cuputer glasses and reading glases. I decided to have them all in one I also got those sunglass coers as well for sunny days and anti glare this has worked for me very well to have all in one glasses. I wish I could where contacts but my eyes are to dry. Thats life.

i wear transition glasses, the only flaw is its not that dark enough when its super bright, but i choose a sturdy frame, and a brown tint. realy useful when driving.

I'm glad I read this...I've thought about buying transitions myself but I always wondered if they were really worth it.
