Trek 1000, great road bike
By Tanya Pecora onI bought this bike second hand since I was on a pretty tight budget. I had read many reviews and heard this was the best entry level bike for the money, so when this one popped up I grabbed it! If you're just starting out and you need a decent bike at a decent price, this is the bike to get.
Pros:
Comfortable riding position.
Good brakes.
Frame and paint are still in great shape, even after years of use.
ultra light aluminum frame.
Shifts quite smoothly.
This bike is great for entry level riders who ride 50 km or less.
Cons:
Spokes tend to break easily, but they can be easily repaired.
Stock components are great for around town but not for hills.
Seat is very uncomfortable.
Aluminum frame could be a bit stiffer.
The nylon strap pedals tent to hurt if you're on the bike a lot.
The bike is quite heavy.
The wheels are subpar, I definately recommend replacing them if you can.
Verdict:
If you're looking to get into road cycling this is bike would make an excellent entry level bike. It is easy to ride and has held up quite well. You do have to make sure you maintain it properly or risk having problems with it. For the price you can't go wrong, I definately recomment this bike to anyone.
