My dog experiences both food and environmental allergies. Recently his environmental allergies presented themselves as a bright red irritated and itchy rash on his back.

Between what myself and the vet we tried several things, but nothing seemed to do much to lessen the rash and any gain that was made quickly took a step back - very frustrating!

I decided that I would see if I could find something that would be soothing to him, like a shampoo with some healing ingredients. This is when I happened upon Tropiclean Oatmeal + Tea Tree Natural Shampoo with Oatmeal, Tea Tree & Vitamin E.

The face of the bottle claims to have soothing relief for dry skin, flaking and itching. It also is labeled as being medicated, but it is naturally medicated.

I looked at the ingredients (I'll list these at the end of the review for convenience) and was quite pleased with what I read.

I ordered the 20 oz size bottle from petfooddirect.com for $9.26, which I felt was a good price for such a large sized bottle. Plus I took advantage of a % off discount that petfooddirect.com emails out weekly to those who sign up for their email newsletters.

The first thing that I did when I received the bottle was to pop open the top and give it a sniff. It has a nice light natural scent.

The directions state to massage into the coat and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse well so this is what we did. My dog seemed to be more comfortable after his bath. We gave him another bath a couple of days later, just to get things working (the bottle says that it can be used daily) and since then - over the next four weeks - he has received about one bath per week. To ensure an even coverage and a nice exfoliation of his skin we use our JW rubber pet brush that I have reviewed HERE. The brush helps because he enjoys being brushed with the soft rubber “bristles” which helps him with the whole waiting 5 to 10 minutes thing!

So far the results are that the rash has reduced to more of a pink blushing on his back I can also actually see that the shampoo is soothing to him.

I do wish that his fur was a bit softer from the shampoo, but he really doesn't have that soft type of fur and there is a companion conditioner if the shampoo alone isn't enough.

Other things to note about this shampoo is that it is Environmentally Safe, Cruelty Free and Made in the USA. There is also a notation at the top back of the bottle, highlighted in yellow, that this product will not remove spot on flea products like Advantage and Frontline.
