Turbo Tax Getting Too Expensive By jb_shops on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Nothing is certain but death and taxes - check that, nothing is certain but death, taxes, and TurboTax is going to cost more than it did the previous year with little positive improvement. Yeah, I'm frustrated! I use Quicken therefore I use its family member TurboTax.

I thought the 2006 tax year product was much more intuitive to use, at least using the tax interview. I guess they were tried a little too hard to improve.

What did I like?

TurboTax remain a solid program to guide the user through the not-so-pleasant process of preparing and filing your taxes.

Frustrations:

It was difficult to find the automatic extension request form. You better know what that form number is. Previous years it was extremely easy to find in several different places

The "improved" quicken import was not as seamless as before. In fact, in previous years more detail was transferred in compared to summary level detail this year.

The price keeps creeping up and up. Especially when you add in the filing fees - rebated in early years. At 89 + 15 it is almost at the edge of my tolerance. An accountant may be in my future.

I love Turbo Tax and find it easy to use, but I agree...it's getting too expensive.

I used the free version this year online, we used to have a CPA file our taxes but finally decided to take the time and save some money. We didn't file a simple return either and it did well by us.. I can't see spending that amount .. we only paid $192 to have our CPA handle it for us.. I agree the price is way too high!

I agree. What is happening? Every year it is more and more and I am sick of it!

I completely agree. I didn't realize how much it had gone up until I was finished and ready to file electronically. By then I didn't want to quit and start all over with another program. But next year......

I agree with you. I noticed that it was more expensive this year. Thanks for sharing.

Turbo Tax seems to only be a bit cheaper than what my accountant charges. I guess I'll stick with the accountant for now!

I love TaxAct! It is really great, the customer service is astounding and it is easy to use. Even for people who don't make enough to file tax returns, this year they opened up a place online for people to just file for the Economic Stimulus payment.

I am a picky product & service snob. Unfortunately my caviar tastes don't match my catfish budget. I am proud......
