Universal Lid By Jan Mayrhofer on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
The Silicone Zone makes all kinds of silicone kitchen items. Someone I knew told me they loved their universal lids, and since I really hate scrambling for the right lid, I decided to try them for myself. I'm convinced!
The silicone lids are just great! I bought two of them: one is 12.5 inches and the other is 10.5 inches. The large one is blue and the small one is white. There is a transparent ring toward the center of the lid so that you can check the contents without lifting the lid.
There is one complaint I have about the lids and that is that the handles are a bit small. I kind of have to grip with my fingertips and nails to lift it. But the lids are pretty light so it's not that inconvenient. Having a small handle makes them super compact, though, so I understand the reason for the design.
Because the lids are made of silicon, they are multi-purpose. Besides being pan lids, you can use them as trivets to set a hot pan on. I've used mine as an impromptu cutting board too, not that I recommend doing that regularly. Also, it can go in the fridge to cover your leftovers.
In the dishwasher, they take up no more space than a dinner plate and likewise in the cupboards. I hang mine by the stove on the handy built-in hanger.
I'm impressed with my Silicone Zone lids and I don't think I'll ever want to use anything else from now on.
