Purchased at: Comp Usa     Price: $89.00 USD

Would you believe there are still places in the US that you cannot receive high-speed Internet service?Even satellite Internet service is a struggle due to various issues

Thankfully, you can still use a modem to access the Web.OH MY AT ONLY 28,800 AGGGGGGGH!For those of you that remember a few years back people everywhere were ecstatic that dial-up speeds increased from 9600 to 14,400 then to 28,800 then to a whopping 56K - talk about high-speed :-)Of course, by then you had the option of selling an offspring to install an ISDN line.Believe it or not it wasn't too long ago.

I mention all of that to show how frustrating it is to have to use dial-up in the era of DSL and cable modems. It is just even more frustrating when you can only connect reliably at 28.8 because your modem doesn't smoothly shake hands with the other end. This US Robotics modem is basically throwing salt into my wounds.

To rule out the telephone line, I have tried several laptops and all have connected much faster.I'm glad dialing up is a relative thing of the past. But until the farm can get it, I'm stuck.

There are still alot of places that can't get internet. It is surprising isn't it?

Yep, my dad lives on a farm and cannot get anything other than dial-up. Not sure what kind of modem he uses, but I'll steer him clear of this one.

I still run on dial up. It is a slow way to crawl. :)

AT &T and Sprint/Nextel are now offering a broadband modem that supposedly connects anywhere, even mid ocean. It may be worth your looking into. For your laptop I mean.

HaHa. I live one of those places, and on purpose too. Thankfully, we are no able to connect at a medium wireless speed because we live on a hill where we can get a signal from a tower. Most people in the county, off a main road, still do dial up, (and can't get cable TV either). If we couldn't get this, I'd sure be looking at one of those USB modems!

Once you have DSL, you simply can't go back to dial up :0) And yeap, there are plenty of places in the US that you still can't get high speed...thankfully I don't live in one of them :0)

I have heard the very same thing about using dial up on farms....I guess I take it for granted & think that everybody can get high speed!

Lol ....option of selling an offspring to install an ISDN line. ...Humorous and informative info here..I hate it too when speed of internet is slow, causing me to curse and swear, I know it is bad but just can't help it when i see the pages never get loaded.

That's too bad that you can't get DSL. I feel bad for you. Dial up is so slow.
