Vanguard Gnma Income Fund By JOEY on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

This is a great mutual fund by the folks at Vanguard. For anyone who knows about this fund family they realize that the one thing that Vanguard does probably better than the rest is keep the expense ratio's of their funds very low. They are also no load funds. Huge benefits for the investor. This particular GNMA fund has been one of the best that I know of over the years. The expense ratio of this fund is an anemic 0.21 % which is terrific. By comparison the peers of this fund throughout the rest of the mutual fund world average an expense ratio of 1.09% which is more than 5 times that of Vanguards. This fund has been managed by Tom Pappas since 1994 and Michael Garret since 2006. Inception of this fund goes back to 1980. In earlier days this fund was managed by Paul Kaplan. Its performance has varied over the years. Its one year came in at 5.15%, 3 years at 4.17%, 5 years at 3.86% and 10 years at 5.66%. Since inception(1980) its averaged 8.45% per year. This is the type of fund that someone who needs or desires income should be interested in. Many retired folks like this fund and I have owned this fund throughout different times of my life. A tremendous fund and a giant thumbs up for Vanguard GNMA fund. I should also mention that this fund is rated very highly by the Morningstar investment group.
