Vicks Speed Read Thermometer By verjavec on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

We were in the process of moving from CO to TX. My husband had to move first so we found him an apt and were there for a couple of days getting him settled when my daughter woke up a 2am and was incredibly warm to the touch. I had nothing, so I had to go to the store for a thermometer and some medicine for her. Thankfully, there was a 24 hr Walgreens just down the street, so off we went.

I grabbed the only thermometer they had and some Tylenol and headed back to the apt. Then I actually looked at the thermometer - it had a very large display. So no squinting to try to see the temperature. I put it under her arm and very quickly had confirmation that she had a fever - 103 - and the display had turned red. One of the features of this thermometer is the color coding. If the temperature is normal, it displays green. If the temperature is only slightly high then the display is yellow. High fevers like hers get the red display. It gives you a really quick visual.

When I took her in to the doctor the next day, the temperature they got was the same as the temperature I'd taken before we left, so the accuracy is very good.

Wow, Walgreens only had one thermometer, that's just crazy. Glad to hear it was actually a good one and worked well for you.

I like the idea of a large reading on the thermometer. They are usually so hard to read.

We are in need of a new thermometer. I'll have to keep this one in mind and get something before we need one at 2 am! Thanks!

Great to know that this thermometer is accurate. I also like the color coded display feature. It is so scary to have a sick little one, even scarier when the thermometer turns red, but at least you knew without question that you had to take her to the doctor.

I am going to look for this thermometer. I seem to always find ones that aren't that accurate. I love the color coded feature. That is a great selling point. For $13.99 it sounds like you get a great and reliable thermometer

Wow! I love the color coding on the Vicks SpeedRead Thermometer! How cool that you will instantly know from the red or green if the temperature is normal or high! Also, thank you for including that the reading from the thermometer was the same as the reading at the doctors office. That is very good to know.

Sounds like a terrific thermometer! Vicks is such a great brand and the color coding idea is ingenius!

I like the color coding feature as well. And the large display is nice as well (especially late at night when you might be a little bleary eyed).
