Victoria And Albert By Mary on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I first saw this presentation on the A&E television by the BBC. I was so impressed that I had to order my own copy. This epic love story is covered in a two volume DVD set and the cover is beautifully illustrated. It gives the viewer a very good idea of the workings of the British parliament, the politics and monarchy of England. The lead female actress is Victoria Hamilton who gives an extraordinary performance as Victoria, Queen of England. Jonathan Firth also gives a powerful performance as Albert. I cannot imagine anyone else playing these parts because these two are so convincing in their roles. Victoria is not an attractive girl and becomes queen at the tender age of 18 years old when her uncle the King dies. Albert comes from Germany and is very charming and handsome.Their marriage is arranged and Albert makes it very clear that he is not in love with Victoria. She, on the other hand is quite smitten with Albert. The British people regard Albert as an outsider because he is not from England. There are conflicts in the marriage because Victoria does not want any of Albert's suggestions since she is queen. The story continues with many twists and turns. In my opinion I believe this movie is a magnificent masterpiece.
