VLC media player is free, open source software. VLC media player plays every kind of audio and video files except some formats like SWF. It plays songs downloaded from Imeem, and also plays videos download from Youtube. It uses FFmpeg and libavcodec . FFmpeg and Libavcodec supports a lot of files formats from most popular formats to very rare formats. At most I play divx, DVD, ogg and flac. This is my favorite media player. Because no other media player is able to play so many formats. It is the most complete audio and video players. If we want to find alternatives for VLC then Winamp will be most complete audio player and GOM player will be my favorite video player. VLC is not only used as player it is also used as platform for creating new applications. Miro is good example for such applications. Miro is community media player where we can download podcasts and also use it as media player. On Windows VLC is the best player. But when to comes to other platforms such as Linux, this is the most crappiest player. It didn't even played a single file on my Fedora. It didn't even played MP3's, such is the situation of VLC on Linux and there are some serious bugs in it and hope that they are fixed. Still VLC is my favorite.
