Vtech Phone By Rae777 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
I bought a new cordless phone. It was a spur of the moment buy. I did not research the matter as usual. It was a Vtech cs5111 phone. It looked very nice on the box. It had an impressive range of features. Some of the features included: it was 5.8 GHz, it had call waiting, caller id, and voicemail. It has a nice large lighted display that shows the number calling, the time, the date, battery bar, and number of calls. It has a button to push to find where you left the phone. This phone can be mounted on the wall or rest on a surface. All n all I though this phone was just what I was looking for.
Got home and I charged it for 16 hours. I called it from my cell phone and it rang. I thought great it must be ready for use. I picked it up and turned it on and nothing! No dial tone. I turned it off and waited a minute like instruction book said and turned it on and still nothing. I turned it on again and watched the handset. It says connecting and then a second later it said it could not connect and it shut off. I tried it in other places in the house that had working phones. Nothing. It still would not work.
Ok tomorrow it goes back and this time I will look for a better brand name. Better yet I willresearch Shared Reviews.com for athe right brand!
Vtech CS5111 Phone Purchased at: Wal-mart Price: 17.99

I have this phone...we needed a "quick fix" til we can get the one we want..it's an ok phone..the battery seems to wear out fast...I'm not sure if thats because theres a teenager in the house or not! I wonder if you got a defective one? Ours works good...no static...all the features work...hmmm...
Wow that's ashame to pay that much for something and it not work. Atleast you are still able to take it bac hoep you find something that works for you.
Sorry to you had to experience V-tech's crappy phones, lol. I learned about that brand of phones a long time ago (I can't figure out how a company can make great childrens learning toys but not be able to properly make a phone).
We received one of these V-Techs as a gift - when we tried to use it we discovered why it was a "gift" - it did the same thing yours did - no dial tone, no way to call out - very poorly made. Unfortunate. Thanks for the info.
I heard them about children learning toys. Its a surprise for me they make real electronics too. But I guess they should not do costly experiment on adults atleast :)lol
I hate V tech phones, the dial tone and buttons never work! Alot of the customers that purchase them where i work ALWAYS return them because of this!
