Walk Like A Penguin At The New England Aquarium By WarPainted on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

If you ever lived in the Boston area you will recognize the line "I can walk like a penguin" from the infectious New England Aquarium commercials. While the commercials may have been repetitive and painfully static, the aquarium is anything but!

Almost 40 years old, the building has changed dramatically, adding and expanding to become one of Boston's most well known attractions and playing host to over 1.3 million residents and tourists every year.

One major focal point is the center cylindrical tank called the Giant Ocean Tank. It extends floor to ceiling 23 feet tall and 43 feet wide. Visitors travel along a spiral ramp at their own pace, taking in all layers of ocean dwellers as they go. If you check out their web site, you can see some great images, web cams and video clips of this attraction.

While the Giant Ocean Tank can't be missed, my favorite attraction is the "Amazing Jellies". The exhibit is 5,000 square feet and is home to some incredibly rare species and has beautiful displays! There is something truly hypnotic about watching jelly fish against mood lighting, like a giant living lava lamp.

The hours and days open change seasonally so be sure to visit www.neaq.com before you go!

Lovely aquarium! It rivals the Monterey Bay Aquarium in many respects. Your photos are awesome!!!

Those pictures are beautiful. I hope to see the aquarium if I ever get to Boston, along with Fenway Park.
