Wall Stud Sensor By Mary60 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
We were in need of a tool to find the exact placement for a wall mount for our tv. We needed to secure the mounts to the studs , with the mounting hardware and make sure it would hold. To use this tool we had to place it on the wall before pressing the power button, which is powered by a 9 volt battery. The battery compartment cover is the belt clip. Studs are usually 16 to 24 inches, but don't assume everything is a stud. You will need to scan at different heights on the wall. Try using the regular mode first and if nothing, then try the deep scan. When a stud is found, mark both edges of the stud and find the center before nailing or drilling for the hardware. It comes with an easy to read display screen and a wire warning alert. We found this tool to work effective, easy, and correct. We hung our new tv, and have been enjoying ever since.

These are such great and nifty tools - of course I still have a hubby who "taps" but for those of us (me particularly) who don't have great distinction "sensor" between what's wood and what's just wall they are a great idea ;) thanks for the info on this. Glad to know they work well and that you are now enjoying a solidly placed TV.
