Wamu Online is Clueless
By pamarama onI attempted to sign up for a free WAMU checking account online. The proces was a complete disaster! When I tried to open the bank account with the required $50 deposit from my another account, the WAMU system ran into an error. It could not match the zip code to the debit card. When propted to I re-entered the zip code. The same error came back, and WAMU said it could not open an account with that funding source. Well wouldn't you know it, I went to the debit card to find the $50 had been taken out of my other account. I called WAMU and they looked me up by my SSN and said there was not account in my name. The customer service lady told me the money would be back in my account in one business day. It has now been five business days and they have not opened my account or given me my money. I would not recommend the online banking services at WAMU.

So sorry about all your problems with WAMU, but I have had a great banking service with them and never had these problems. I guess all banks have problems at times. Banks are necessary, but they all can be a pain at times.
O h wow... I can't believe that! It sounds kinda fishy. Have you tried calling them again because I would ride their butt trying to get my money back. $50 is a whole tank of gas. I wouyld be very upset!
Oh I am so disappointed for you. I have seen these commercials and been tempted to try to open an account. I'll definitely stay away from it now.
Ack! That is horrible! If you have not received your money back yet, do contact the bank that holds your other account and explain what happened. Most likely your regular bank will get involved and do all of the legwork for you to ensure that your money is back in your account. Plus, by going through your bank if this is a frequent issue your bank will know about it and can report WAMU. Good luck!
