Wellbutrin is typically prescribed as an antidepressant for major depressive disorder or seasonal affective disorder. The brand name Zyban gears towards to help people stop smoking by reducing cravings and other withdrawal effects. They are all the same generic drug name meaning they have the same chemical and medication despite the different brand drug names they have that advertise for their own spceciality. The amount of milligrams can be a difference.
I was originally prescribed Wellbutrin XL for anti-depression with the possibility to help me quit smoking even though that was not something I was interested in doing at that time. Within a few weeks my depression was just as bad but my interest in cigarettes had diminished a lot. I was not experiencing any type of noticable side affect. I was finding myself trying to smoke a cigarette during my work breaks and wrinkling my nose in disgust. I would be out with friend drinking and smoking and my interest to share the two was not there anymore.
After two months, I was not smoking at all and we weened me off the drug because the initial reason for presribing was not working. I would recommend this to anyone that is seriously interested in quitting smoking and do not want to try patches or gums or have already tried and unable to succeed.

That's very interesting. I am a smoker who was also prescribed Wellbutrin for depression. I never felt the urge to smoke wan. The doctor asked me if I felt less need to smoke...but never did. Good to hear that it worked for you.
It's good that there are so many choices to help people stop smoking. Everyone's body chemistry is a little different.
