Wet Hot American Summer By Rathborne on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Wet Hot American Summer, from the creators of (and featuring much of the ensemble of) MTV's "The State," is one of the best "dark" comedies I've seen. The talents of "State" alumni including Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black, plus better known faces such as David Hyde Pierce and Janeane Garofalo make what initially seems like just a summer camp movie parody into a dark, irreverent sendoff to not only the camp movie genre, but numerous other movie clichés and social values.

The middle third of the film seems to drag a bit, relative to the rapid-fire absurdity of the beginning and end segments, but the film remains entertaining throughout. I would absolutely recommend this to fans of such shows as "The State", "Reno 911", and "Upright Citizens Brigade", but anyone not turned off by a bit of crass humor would definitely enjoy this movie.
