Over the summer a friend and I traveled to St. Anthony, Newfoundland for a random adventure and took upon ourselves to take a whale watching and iceberg boat tour because neither of us had ever see a whale or an iceberg. Although the tour itself was a little pricy ($50.00 for adults, 20-25 for children) it was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.
They have 3 tours during the day (9, 1, and 4) so it is very easy to fit on of this tours into your day. The trip itself consisted of iceberg watching and whale watching depending on what was available. Usually the tour lasts anywhere between 2 and 3 hours, depending on how many whales and/or icebergs are in the area. The only downfall with whale watching tours is that you are never guaranteed to see an actual whale or iceberg. Luckily we happened to come across a pod of orca whales and even a few humpbacks! The boat itself could hold almost 60 people and had an upper deck and lower deck which both provided fantastic vantage points for viewing. On the boat there was a complete bar service which was a great service to have because a nice cold beer sailing the open sea is a very refreshing experience. The tour guide was very informative, providing information throughout the tour and the various types of whales and icebergs and he quickly answered any questions that were asked.
While the whales provided for great picture taking the icebergs were also a nice treat due to their majestic beauty. We went during the perfect time of year and actually seen an iceberg that stood over 150 feet tall. One of my greatest experiences from the trip was actually scooping shards of the iceberg into the boat and actually using them as ice cubes for our drinks, it was the best gin on the rocks I've ever had!!
If you are even in Newfoundland and are looking for an informative, friendly, breathtaking boat tour and don't mind paying the money they I would strongly recommend Northland Discover Boat Tours.

I would love to do this! We have been dolphin watching, but whales would be spectacular to see! They are so majestic! So beautiful! For now, I will have to depend on Discovery to feed my desire. Thanks for the information.
