When Being Out Of Touch Is Out Of The ? By MickeyM on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Okay, we all have a cell phone, Right? Well despite being usefull and available almost anywhere thats not truly everywhere. To fill this gap enter the Satelite phone. Now for those of you not familiar they are a very different beast. First off they are heavier, larger and more imprtantly much mor expesnive to own and use. These are not for your casual toy user. My experience stems from working in remote areas that do not yet have the modern cell phone tower. They still won't work anywhere but certainly almost anywhere.
This is a business in which Iridium come to the rescure. Offering several models mainly different in size and talk time. The cheap ones around 1200 and goes up to many thousands. To add insult to injury I hope your not payicg the bill expect to pay over a dollar a minute to stay connected on any satelite phone. Also there will be a noticeable delay of voice unlike tradtional phones.
They are however rentable for high fees if the need for one strikes you. SO Either way be prepared to be reachable in the deepst jungle or the most deserted dessert. So if its not your money or moneys no object Iridum will help you reach out and touch someone from anywhere.
