I have twin boys who are almost 14. I bought them laptop computers for Christmas so they would leave mine alone. Then came the problem of internet service. We had dial-up which meant only 1 computer could be on at a time. We live in the country so our only option for high-speed is satellite, so we got one.
The boys wanted to be able to use their laptops anywhere in the house so we bought a Linksys wireless router. This small box has ended so many disputes that it is a blessing. My husband or I can be on the desktop and both boys can be on their laptops and it works wonderfully.
The boys also have Nintendo DS and a Wii which are both wireless capatible. So at times we have 3 computers and 2-3 game systems on the internet at the same time. And while this does slow down our speed somewhat it is still fast.
It was very easy to set up, just plug your ethernet into it and run the enclosed disk in your computer and follow the instructions. It is very small, only about 4 in. by 5 in. We can get a signal anywhere in the house and on our front porch. We tested the range to see if anyone else could pick up our signal but always lost the signal before leaving our property (3 acres).
In my opinion this is one of the best $50 I have ever spent.

i did not know the Nintendo DS' were wireless?! I may have to get one to utilize my router :)
These are great. It finally got us off of dial-up (also in the country). Be careful to unplug it during thunderstorms! Thanks for the info!
What a nice idea for the whole family. Each person can have their own computer and be happy! We have wireless at home too. Makes it nice when you want to sit on the deck and surf on the internet. I think it's a must if you own a laptop. You don't want to have to be dragging wires all over the house...wireless is awesome!
We bought the same router and I love it we have not had any probelms at all with it and it has ended the fighting between my husband and girls about who is going to get on the internet.

We have the exact same router & I'm so glad we have it! I bet you are enjoying having your own computer again so your twins don't borrow your's!!
It's not a lot of money to pay for something that makes such a difference.
