Wood Laminate Floors By traceyb22 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
When we moved into our house it had carpet that needed replacing badly. We loved the look of hardwood floors, but knew they were out of our budget. We'd also heard they scratch easily and if you have an active, larger dog (which we do), they might get damaged. We decided to look into wood laminate floors. We started looking at Pergo, because that's the brand we'd always heard of, but a lot of people didn't have good things to say about them so we started checking out other brands.
We found the Witex Town and Country laminate at one of the many flooring stores we visited. It was more than we wanted to pay, but it was on sale, so we took a few samples home. We fell in love with the Victorian Cherry color. It was exactly what we were looking for. They color was perfect and the floor looked more like real wood than many we'd looked at. It has a little texture to it and is very detailed. It didn't have that shiny, fake look that we'd seen so many times.
When we went back to the store we found out that this floor might be worth the extra money. It has a 25 year warranty and a special water warranty that most floors don't. I guess water is the main thing that causes damage to laminate, but this floor is so dense that a lot of water would have to sit for along time to damage it. If that happens, the company will replace the damaged parts at no cost. Evidently most warranties don't cover water damage. This is only for water from inside your house (like if your water heater springs a leak while you're on vacation), not flooding.
We had the floors installed and have been so happy with them. We've had them for four years now. They have no scratches or dents. They've had a wild dog running and sliding all over them daily, furniture dragged across them, numerous things dropped on them, but no damage. The color has stayed true also - no fading where the sun shines in the window. These floors still look great. They are easy to clean, which I love. I usually just sweep and then mop with a spray bottle of water and vinegar.
I don't have anything really negative to say about these floors. They are a little noisy, but we got a more sound resistant under layer, so that helps some. They are also really hard, which worried me some when my son was learning to sit up and crawl. It never seemed to bother him though and we have a area rug and some foam mats for him to play on.
If you are looking for new floors and like the look of hardwoods, but not the price Witex laminate floors are a great choice.

Wild dogs...oh my! LOL I think this sounds like the perfect flooring! I am impressed with the flooring remaining true to the color and easy cleaning. What a better way to clean floors with just vinegar and water!
We're going to have to keep this in mind! Our two dogs are quite wild and destroyed our hardwood floor.
These sound like awesome floors, no scratches after 4 years? That's great!
This is something that I would like after my kids get a bit older... I'm afriad all their little ride-on toys and toy cars would not do well on wood, but it sounds like this product just might starnd up to them!
It sounds like your floor has passed all kinds of tests & still looks as good as it did when it was installed!
Sound beautiful. I am thinking of doing this in my kitchen area. Thanks for the information.
We have wooden floors (they came with the house), but I have to say laminate floor is more durable.
I love hard wood. I will keep this in mind for sure. Thanks for sharing this helpful information.
thanks for sharing those laminate floors, they sound very durable indeed.
This sounds good. I wish you had a picture. I am in the market to do something like this in my home.
